George Washington Robershaw

Page Five

About two years ago, I asked cousin Hal where our Great Uncle George W. Robershaw was buried? Hal knew from talking to cousin Robert that he was buried in a cemetery on highway 202 in the Anniston, Alabama area. So one Saturday, Hal and his wife Dora set out exploring. The first cemetery they found on highway 202 was Pine Grove Cemetery!

This cemetery is on the side of a steep hill. Some of it was to steep for Hal to climb! About eight hours later Hal and Dora were successful in finding wife Sara’s headstone. In plain view was George W. Robershaw grave beside hers where his had settled with no marker. Later Hal and Dora would return and clean the site and Gene Reid would bring a truck load of dirt for fill.

Hal and I set out to raise funds for a headstone for George W. Robershaw, who was one of our three Family Patriarchs. On Wednesday, June 13, 2007 all of Hal’s hard work came to fruition. I would like to THANK ALL who helped in this endeavor! Cousin, Ron

This is pretty much how it looked when we started! We are getting closer to Sara's headstone! This growth is less than two years old!
If you look close, these are trunks to young sapling trees we have cleared!
Success at last we have cleared the site and reached wife Sara Corinthian Robershaw marker! Unfortunately and error was made on the name and spelling on her marker! Hal informed the company if they put "t" in George's marker they would have to redo it!!
I hope the pictures speak for themselves. Also just wanted to add that Hal's new truck had a tough time getting up the dirt road!!
